How To Install An Aquasign Product

How do you install an Aquasign?
One of the questions we’re asked most frequently here at AQUASIGN is how do you actually install the product.
And given that successful installation is a fairly crucial part of an effective Aquasign, we wanted to clear things up once and for all.
When do you install an Aquasign?
Before we get on to the ‘how’s, let’s talk about the ‘when’.
While it’s possible to fit an Aquasign post-deployment, we really recommend attaching the product above water, pre-deployment.
It doesn’t take a genius to work out why it’s easier to do it that way, but we’ll be covering retrofit options in a later blog for those of you looking for a more complicated – and wetter – approach.

Stick it. Bolt it. Strap it. Tie it.
Never let it be said that we don’t give our customers options! Aquasign can be installed in a variety of ways – we’ve tried to make your life easier by taking into account things like:
- Flat and curved surfaces
- Solid and grated surfaces
- Various substrates
- Specialised coatings
- Differing subsea environments
No matter your specifications, we’ve got an installation method that will suit your project perfectly.
Ordinarily, it’s not the best feeling when someone tells you to stick it. But at AQUASIGN, we’ve developed a range of specialist, non-toxic adhesives that are designed to withstand the rigours of subsea use, so we hope you’ll forgive us.
Our KISS® self-adhesive is our standard recommended Aquasign fixing for two main reasons:
- It’s highly effective
- It’s very simple to use
There’s no need to mix adhesive or worry about applying the right amount to the back of your Aquasign marker.
It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3:
- PEEL off the protective backing
- STICK the Aquasign on to your item
- SEAL around the edge using Biohesive® to activate your 60-year guarantee
❗️Our KISS® adhesive isn’t suitable for every application. But fear not: we can supply you with a traditional adhesive system that will attach to pretty much every substrate.❗️
Our traditional adhesives include Biohesive®, a silicone RTV subsea adhesive that doubles up as our preferred Aquasign sealant, and Aquahesive: a two-component polyurethane adhesive.
Mechanical fixing methods
We can supply your Aquasign complete with bolt holes if that better matches your requirements.
Our mechanical installation options are supplied per your exact specification. We can create bolt holes of an exact diameter and position.
Again, just remember to seal your Aquasign with Biohesive® once it’s bolted on – your 60-year guarantee is not valid without this step!
We can also manufacture custom strapping assemblies using your outer diameters for ease of installation and a perfect fit, or supply your Aquasign ready for cable-tie or tag fixing.
In short: a happy customer is our favourite kind of customer. So if there’s a particular fixing method you need, just ask a member of our team.

However you install your Aquasign…
Before you go, we want to reiterate a key point. No matter how you install it, you must make sure to seal your Aquasign with Biohesive®.
- To create a water-tight seal around your Aquasign
- To protect against environmental contamination
- To activate your 60-year AQUASIGN guarantee
More often than not, when we hear that there’s been some trouble getting an Aquasign to stay where it’s supposed to, it’s a sealing issue.
All our Aquasign installation guides contain information on how to complete the sealing step. And each one of our Aquasign kits has everything you’ll need to seal the marker perfectly.
If you’re unsure of anything, please just contact us and ask – we’ll be more than happy to talk you through the installation process and answer any questions.
